Tour description

The cycle path leads through the local recreation area of the Augsburg forest along the Lech river through the botanical treasure trove of the Lech valley heaths, passes the gentle hills of the Pfaffenwinkel nature region near Schongau to the Forggensee lake and leads past the Füssen Lech Falls directly into the Tyrolean Alps. From Reutte, an organized transfer takes you to Fernsteinsee Castle and the cycle path takes you through the picturesque Gurgltal valley into the Tyrolean Oberland. A transfer takes you up the ascent to Nauders on the Reschen Pass. From Lake Reschen in South Tyrol, the Adige Cycle Path takes you along the playful river through lush orchards and cultivated landscapes until the Vinschgau Valley merges into the Burggrafenamt Meran near Töll, at the former Roman customs station of the Via Claudia Augusta. Southern flair is exuded by the vineyards that nestle in sweeping lines around Lake Kaltern, seamlessly merging from the South Tyrolean lowlands into Trentino and interrupted only by stately castles on steeply sloping high plateaus. It is almost only a stone's throw from Trento to Riva del Garda and the deep blue mountain lake beckons with its rugged rocks and the delicate pink of the oleander bushes.

Character of the route

Mostly asphalted cycle paths and farm tracks as well as little-used side roads and through-town roads, individual sections on gravel. The steepest climbs are bridged with transfers. From Lake Reschen to Merano there are some longer descents. The cycle tour is suitable for children aged 12 and over.
