Tour description

Your cycle tour across the Alps begins at the ancient route of the Via Claudia Augusta across the Forggenstausee. After a short intermezzo with King Ludwig's visions in his castle Neuschwanstein, the cycle route continues along the Lech into the Tyrolean Alps, past the Füssen Lech Falls. From Reutte, an organized transfer takes you to Fernsteinsee Castle and the cycle path takes you through the picturesque Gurgltal valley to the Tyrolean Oberland. The transfer takes you uphill to Nauders on the Reschen Pass. From Lake Reschen in South Tyrol, the Adige Cycle Path takes you along the playful river through lush orchards and cultivated landscapes until the Vinschgau Valley merges into the Burggrafenamt Meran near Töll, at the former Roman customs station of the Via Claudia Augusta. Southern flair is exuded by the vineyards that nestle in sweeping lines around Lake Kaltern and seamlessly transition from the South Tyrolean lowlands to Trentino. By transfer you leave the city of Trento and travel through the magnificent Valsugana-Thermen region, between Brenta and Feltre. In the middle of the splendid hills of the world famous Prosecco/Valdobbiadene region, you will find your way through beautiful and historically important places such as Treviso, where Quarto d'Altino is the starting point of your journey. The train takes you directly to the center of Venice, where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll through the Serenissima with its palazzi and art treasures.

Character of the route

The route is mostly on asphalted cycle paths and farm tracks as well as little-used side roads and through-town roads, with individual sections on gravel. Transfers over the Fern Pass (Reutte - Fernsteinsee), to the Reschen Pass (Landeck - Nauders) and from Trento to Levico Terme. From Lake Reschen to Merano there are some longer downhill sections. 2 x 5 km of roads with heavier traffic from Feltre to Quarto d'Altino. Suitable for families with children aged 12 and over.
