This journey of discovery begins in the capital Tirana and leads south across the country over spectacular mountains and through striking gorges and valleys. You will explore the land of the Skipetars, as the Albanians like to call themselves, whose country played an important role in the past of the Balkans, but was long forgotten and is now seeking or finding its connection to Europe again. The many architecturally unique mountain ranges, gorges, rivers and valleys, as well as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, speak of the turbulent history of this country. The flat Adriatic coast of 250km and the beautiful, natural South Ionian Riviera make this cycling tour unforgettable.

Characteristics of the route

The route leads mostly on small side roads, which are mostly asphalted, partly also on well paved gravel roads. At city entrances, increased traffic load is to be expected. The route requires a medium level of fitness, as there are days with over 1,000 meters of elevation gain. The bus is available for ascents.
