The Tauernschleuse is the ÖBB tunnel that connects the Gastein Valley with Carinthia. This tunnel is already over 115 years old and therefore in need of renovation. For this reason, the tunnel will be closed from mid-November to the beginning of July, after which operations will resume for bicycle transportation.

We have slightly adapted the classic tour along the Alpe Adria Cycle Path for this period (early May - mid-July) and you can book it on two weekdays, including a bus transfer from Schwarzach/St. Veit to Spittal/Drau. From there you cycle on to Villach. For more information, please click directly on the programs:
If you want to enjoy the Alpe Adria Cycle Path in its entirety, we recommend booking from the middle of JULY. However, if your vacation is already fixed and approved and you prefer to cycle in May/June, a cycle tour from Lake Chiemsee to the Adriatic Sea might also be of interest: Chiemsee Lignano
